Salon manager job description

Job purpose:

Day to day running of an efficient and friendly salon reflecting the P&J Palmer brand principles and service standard where employees maintain a highly creative, passionate approach to all aspects of the hairdressing industry. Therefore creating a professional yet exciting working environment.

As a salon manager you must ensure the P&J Palmer brand values are maintained at all times: Quality, Passion, Creativity and Professionalism. You must ensure the following objectives are met:

·Increase salon turnover in accordance with targets

·Motivate and grow your team to create repeat business

·Create and maintain a superb environment for customers and team alike

·Maintain and control all aspects of health and safety legislation in your salon.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

Knowledge:

·An understanding of all aspects of the hairdressing industry Of changing fashions and trends

·Keeping up to date with new collections within the hairdressing industry

Skills and experience:

·Managerial and business-organisation, delegation planning for unforeseen circumstances

·Open minded to learning new skills and the ability to pass these on

·Communication and people-ability to inspire, inform, encourage and resolve issues

Impact influence and key relationships:

Impact influence:

· Staff – be aware of power and the influence of your actions on your team

· Clientele – being seen in control, diplomatic, as a decision maker and an ambassador of P&J Palmer

· Local business aware of positive impact in local community, respected and a good employer

Key relationships:

·Area manager, occasional correspondence with directors

·Other salon managers and assistant manager

·Receptionist, stylists and assistants

Main responsibilities

Sales and profitability

·Salon turnover and profit – analyzing and knowing past and current performance and identifying ways to improve.

·Retail sales – reviewing individual sales, setting targets, reviewing current ranges and promotions for feedback to head office

·Daily and weekly cash up – accuracy, reconciliation, the link with daily sales to staffing and weekly and monthly planning.

Customer Care

·Ensuring service provided is to the P&J Palmer standard / brand and improvements are continually sought through feedback from the team and clientele

·Complaints / queries to be recognised and solved at the earlier stages (receptionist) with the support from managers on decisions made

Team Management

·New staff induction for salon

·All staff holidays are sufficiently covered

·Staff schedules for training and working hours

·Staff punctuality, sickness, holidays and days off

·Staff performance management and disciplinarys

·Monthly team meetings and personal 1-2-1 with staff

·Keeping the team happy and motivated, maintaining the P&J Palmer brand, to ensure positive attitude is reflected around the salon

·Ensure all employees are working to their job descriptions

Salon operations

·Keeping the P&J Palmer brand maintained within the salon, ensuring imagery and information around the salon to be kept up to date ·Reception cover – being available to assist front of house

·Ensuring salon runs smoothly, professionally for example following the service system and maintaining a superb environment for clients and employees.

·Stock levels are maintained to provide correct service and at the same time balancing maximum profit with minimum spend

·Fire procedures; ensure staff awareness of the meeting point and evacuation procedures. Appoint a fire marshal to carry out these requirements

·Legal break requirements how many minutes break to how many hours worked, allowances for the under 18s

·Salon risk assessments of health and safety issues are carried out on a daily basis and any action lists completed

Local marketing

·Driving local businesses through offering corporate discounts

·Informing area manager to contact local press about occasions in salon for example, salon birthdays, refurbishments, promotions, deals and offers

·Using all in salon marketing material and systems to increase business.

Other duties

·Assisting area manager in projects and requests

·Able to undertake reasonable duties assigned by the business for example; project work, training others covering for other salons ·Ensuring the salon operates to its specific opening hours and security is maintained at all times
